PURPOSE:To prevent an unnecessary heat from being applied to a sheet, by providing a heat insulating cover for a heat plate and enclosing the sheet against the surface and both side end faces of the heat plate at the fixing operation time. CONSTITUTION:A fixing device is provided with a heat plate 1 for melt-fixing thermally a toner image formed on the surface of the sheet, a face-shaped heating heater 2 for heating the heat plate, and a side plate of the heat plate formed with materials having a high heat insulating property. The heat insulating cover for the heat plate 1 is provided with a cover back plate 7 facing the heat plate and a cover side wall 9, and a heat reflective plate 8 is attached to the cover back plate 7 on the surface side of the heat plate. Consequently, the surface and both side end faces of the heat plate 1 are enclosed with the heat insulating cover at the fixing operation time to prevent an unnecessary heat from being applied to the sheet, and thus, the toner image is fixed with less quantity of heat. |
