A zig-zag sewing machine comprises a pack of rotary cams fixed to a driving shaft, an oscillating follower selectively engageable with the cams, a slide rigid with the follower, a finger abutting the slide and coupled to the needle bar gate for transmitting thereto oscillation of the follower, and camselection means having a member which is movable parallel to the axis of the cam-driving shaft by co-operation with a manually-rotatable cam and is so coupled to the follower that the latter is movable therewith while being free to oscillate. A pack of cams 6, fixed to a rotary driven shaft 7, is selectively engageable with a follower 13 fixed to a plate 27 slidable on parallel shafts 14 and 25 which are rigid with a member 23 formed with a slide 24. Shaft 14 is journalled in a structure 15 which is pivoted on a shaft 30, but which is normally fixed. A bar 29, slidable on parallel shafts 30 and 32, carries a member 34 which is forked to embrace place 27, and also carries a follower pin 36 co-operating with a spiral camgroove 37 formed in the rear face of a manuallyrotatable knob 40. Rotation of the latter thereby serves to move member 29 and plate 27 for engaging follower 13 selectively with the cams 6. Knob 40 is held in its positions of adjustment by a spring- biased pin 45. A finger 57 abutting'slide 24 is carried by a link 52 pivoted at 53 to a gate 54 which is pivoted at 55 and slidably carries the needle bar 4. A spring 70 serves to bias finger 57 against slide 24. A bell crank lever 64, pivoted on shaft 7, carries on one of its arms a handle 66 and on the other arm a pin 61 engaged in an axial slot 60 in finger 57. Swinging of lever 64 thereby serves to shift finger 57 along slide 24 for varying the stitch width. An extension 76 of structure 15 carries a follower pin 75 co-operating with a cam groove 74 formed in the upper surface of a manually-rotatable knurled wheel 71. Rotation of the latter thereby serves to pivot structure 15 for varying the centre line of the stitching. Detachably fixed to the upper end of shaft 7 by the means described in Specification 779,038 is an additional zig zag control cam and a work feed control cam.</p> |
