<p>The scoop drill has a cylindrical casing with a detachable bottom head carrying cutter blades mounted on pivots. The blades are connected by levers to the bottom end of a piston rod in a hydraulic jack(a). The cylinder of jack(a) is connected to the cylinder of a second hydraulic jack(b), the piston of which is connected to a control cable fixed to the winch of the machine. When the control cable is raised, the cutter blades swivel inwards to grip and retain an earth sample which can then be brought to the surface.</p> |
