<p>The end-piece consists of a ring-shaped clamp (1) made of an insulating material which holds a metallic sleeve fits onto the fixed terminal. The clamp (1) has radial indentations (6,7,8) and is divided through at one end by a slit so that it has radial flexibility. The tightening action of the clamp grips the terminal post by converting a lever action into radial compression. An annular groove (9,10) lodges an articulated strap attached to the lever mechanism. The mechanism straddles the heel (5) of the clamp ring and pivots about a transverse axis (13). A lever attached to the mechanism pulls the strap tightly into the groove and causes the clamp to compress the inner metal sleeve. An extended section of the sleeve is pressed into contact with a tongue of metal attached to a tray to which the cable (17) end is fixed by a screw (15).</p> |
