CONSTITUTION:When the load on an engine is low, a mixture is sucked from a second intake passage 9 into a combustion chamber 4 by the negative pressure of the engine during the period from the final stage of the process of intake to the process of compression. When the engine rotates slowly under high load, a first intake passage 8 is closed and only the mixture from the second intake passage 9 is supplied under pressure. At that time, no air flows back to the first intake passage 8. When the engine rotates rapidly under high load, a fresh mixture from the first intake passage 8 is supplied and the mixture from the second intake passage 9 is supplied at least in the process of compression so that the charging efficiency is heightened.
