PURPOSE:To make a vivid positive color display possible, by using a color liquid crystal composite, which consists of a nematic liquid crystal having a negative dielectric anisotropy and bicolor coloring matters, as a liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal composite consisting of a nematic liquid crystal (liquid crystal molecules 8) having a negative dielectric anisotropy and bicolor coloring matters (molecules 9) is used, and transparent conductive film layers 4 are vapor-deposited in accordance with a display pattern on display parts of upper and lower substrates, and all of surfaces of substrates are subjected to the vertical orientation treatment (films 5) by chrome complex or the liekl. In the orientation state with no field applied, color generation of a display part 7 is slightly stronger than that of a non-display part 6, but the difference of color generation cannot be recognized. In the orientation state with a field applied, color generation of the display part 7 is stronger than that of the peripheral part because of parallel orientation, and the positive color display is possible. Further, since the display part 7 is thicker than the non-display part 6, absorption of light deflected in the direction of the longer axis of coloring matter molecules 9 is increased, and the vivid positive color display is obtained. |
