In a device for anti-theft attachment of a registration number plate (1) to a motor vehicle, at least one screw (4) is provided which can be plugged through a bore (9) of the registration number plate (1) and can be screwed into a threaded opening (20) of the motor vehicle. In order to prevent the registration number plate (1) being released in a normal fashion and in order to detect a violent release in which the attachment becomes unusable, the screw head (13) is enclosed by a securing cap (5) which is connected fixed in terms of rotation to the registration number plate (1) and has a through-plug opening (8) for the threaded shaft (12) of the screw (4) and which exposes the tool engagement face (21) of the screw head (13). The screw head (13) has a circumferential toothing (16) on its area located in the securing cap (5) and arranged in the securing cap (5) is a locking lever which interacts with the toothing (16) and releases the screw (4) only in the rotational direction of attachment. <IMAGE>
