The mechanism is intended for splitting wood logs. It comprises a base with upright telescopically adjustable column whose movable upper portion carries a horizontally extending bar with downwardly pointing log splitting member, and a screw jack resting on the base and provided with a support for the log. - By operating the screw jack, the log is raised into contact with the member, further operation of the jack splitting the log.
