PURPOSE:To output a compressed data in response to an input data and to attain a data compressor with a simple hardware, by providing a data conversion section performing logical operation in an arbitrary mode, based on the bit information of input data. CONSTITUTION:In converting a picture data D0 in 4-bit before compression into a data DS in 3-bit after compression with logical operation, the data D0 is stored in a data latch 1. A data signal 2 representing the data D0 stored is inputted to a data conversion section 3 to determine the compression rate with the ratio of the bit number of the data D0 to that of the data DS after compression. A data signal 4 of the compressed data DS is stored in a data latch 5. The data conversion pattern in the conversion section 3 is changed arbitrarily, allowing to compress data in response to the object of data usage and to simplify the hardware of the data compressor. |
