The invention relates to a device for detecting the piston position of a cylinder. A piston which is connected to a piston rod is arranged such that it can be displaced in a cylinder housing which is produced from a material which cannot be magnetised. The piston rod and/or the piston consist at least partially of a material which can be magnetised. Arranged on at least one part of the cylinder housing is a coil winding whose inductance can be varied by the displacement of the piston or of the piston rod.
