PURPOSE:To make a titled meter adaptable to small-sized molds as well, by supplying an AC excitation signal to a single coil provided to the top end of a mold wall, measuring the impedance of the coil and obtaining the measuring signal for the position of the molten steel level in the mold. CONSTITUTION:An excitation signal source 202 which applies an AC excitation signal to a single coil 201 which is a coil for excitation and detection, and a means 203 for obtaining the measuring signal corresponding to the position of a molten metal level by measuring the inductance component of said coil 201 are provided. A constant current circuit which outputs the constant current signal wherein AC current of specified amplitude is superposed on specified DC current is used as the source 202, and the means 203 is constituted of a measuring circuit 204 for AC voltage which detects the AC component Es of the current flowing in the coil 201, a measuring circuit 205 for DC voltage detecting the DC component EDC and an arithmetic circuit 206 which calculates the inductance component Eac of the coil 201 from the components Es, DDC obtained from the circuits 204, 205. |
