PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate speed signal and accurate track pitch, by writing a servo signal in only a phase element area of a track after the DC erasure of the track. CONSTITUTION:Under the control of a control part CNT, a magnetic head HD is positioned at a track 1 which is where the servo signal is written firstly. Then, the head HD is applied with a current in a specific direction over one turn of the track by a signal writing circuit WAMP to perform DC erasure. In the position element area, the head HD is fed with the current to perform recording. The current flowing through the head HD is applied in the opposite direction to the current during the DC erasure only while a prescribed position element is written. Then, the head HD is moved only by prescribed distance in the writing direction of the track, thus positioning the head. |
