[Also in Division F4] An H.F. field is produced by two or more electrodes which extend substantially in the conveying direction of a sheet of material, e.g. gummed paper, to dry the material. The gummed flaps of paper bags 16 pass on a perforated conveyer 3 beneath rod-shaped electrodes 1, 2 adjustably mounted a few millimetres above and substantially parallel to the conveyor, which electrodes are connected to an H.F. generator 13 which produces an H.F. field directed substantially parallel to and transversely of the path of travel of the bags. The gummed flaps are held flat on the conveyer by a suction box beneath the conveyer, both of which are formed of material, not heated by the field. The electrodes arc parallel to each other but may be arranged obliquely of the path of travel. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the rod electrodes are replaced by a hollow waveguide fed with H.F. voltage from a magnetron, the conveyer and material passing through the field present in the interior of the waveguide along a slit in the waveguide. One end of the waveguide is connected to a water load. |
