Antimicrobial 7-( alpha -acylamino- alpha -arylacetamido)-3-(substituted methyl)cephalosporin compounds

Compounds of the formula <IMAGE> +TR <IMAGE> wherein R1 is hydrogen or a (C1-C4) alkyl group, X is a straight or branched chain C1-C4 alkylene group and R2 is a carboxyl group or a sulfo group; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof exhibit strong inhibitory activities against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Psendomonas aeruginosa, indolepositive Proteus and Enterobacter aerogenes, and also have an increased and prolonged serum level in a living body. The compounds are therefore useful as antibacterial agents for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
