The indolines≮I R = H, (substituted) alkyl or NH2; R1 = H, alkyl, alkoxy, NO2, OH; R2 = H, alkoxy, NO2≉ were prepd. by the cyclization of II (X = halogen) in the presence of Cu compd. and an amine. Thus, 2-CIC6H4CH2CH2NH2 was added to a mixt. of HOCH2CH2NH2 and CuCl2 under N at 150≦̸C to give 93% indole of 99.9% purity.
