In a drinking basin for cattle, having an outflow valve actuated by means of a pressure flap and a shut-off bolt to prevent the actuation of the water outflow valve by the pressure flap, the intention is reliably to avoid the actuation of the shut-off bolt by the animals which are to be watered. This is achieved by means of the invention in that the shut-off bolt is rotatably arranged in the cup of the basin and possesses, behind the pressure flap, a lug standing perpendicularly to the axis of rotation, and the pressure flap has a projection on the back, in the region between the axis of rotation of the shut-off bolt and the axis of the flap, by means of which the pressure flap rests on the shut-off bolt when the lug is turned upwards.
