PURPOSE:To improve the heat and moisture resistance of a polarizing plate by injecting a liq. crystal compositin composed chiefly of a specified dichromatic dye and a vinyl monomer as a liq. crystal into the space between 2 sheets of horizontally oriented ''NESA '' glass and polymerizing the monomer under heating while applying voltage in the vertical direction. CONSTITUTION:A p type dichromatic dye and a polymn. catalyst are mixed and dissolved in a vinyl monomer having a liq. crystal group in the side chain of the methyl methacrylate monomer through a spacer and represented by the formula as a liq. crystal to prepare a liq. crystal composition. The liq. crystal composition is injected into the space of a cell using 2 sheets of ''NESA '' glass oriented horizontally by rubbing or other treatment. While heating and holding the resulting liq. crystal cell at a temp. at which the liq. crystal phase is shown, e.g. at 150 deg.C, an electric field of 100V is applied in the vertical directionto to cause the uniaxial and horizontal orientation of the liq. crystal composition, and in this state the vinyl monomer is polymerized. After finishing the polymn., the ''NESA '' glass is removed to obtain a filmlike color polarizing plate with high heat and moisture resistances. |
