The portable hand tool for finishing plaster wall surfaces comprises a motor (1), the output shaft (2) of which carries a rotor (3). The rotor drives a finishing disc (4) via a joint (7) which allows angular movement between the rotational axis (8) of the finishing tool (4) and the rotational axis (9) of the motor. The tool allows different surface finishes to be achieved in the plaster by the use of different types of finishing disc.
