PURPOSE:To display pictures having excellent drivability and reliability with respect to a device for displaying pictures of good quality with high image resolution by generating foam in a liquid layer and developing the same as picture elements. CONSTITUTION:When the corresponding points of an absorbing layer 1 are heated by irradiation of radiations 5 to display element from the right of the figure, a thin liquid layer 2 in contact with said layer is heated by heat conduction, and the temp. of the liquid rises until finally the liquid boils and vapor foam 4 is formed in the layer 2. Light transmittable glass or the like having pressure resistance is used as a transparent protective plate 3. In the case of irradiating the radiations 5, if the foam is of micro sizes, the light scattering effect is increased by the effect to curvature, and in an area where there is no foam, the greater part of observing light 7 is reflected or absorbed by a part of the elements of the display element and arrives at the observing eye 5. Therefore, a difference in optical path, hence a difference in the quantity of light is produced between the case in which the light 7 passes through the foam 4 and the case in which said light does not pass through the foam. Thus, pictures are displayed with excellent drivability an reliability. |
