PURPOSE:To obtain a display element having high resolution, and excellent drivability, etc. by making use of differences in quantity of light, hues and background colors by constituting the liquid layer of a display element provided with the liquid layer and a heating element for generating micro foam in the liquid layer of light transmittable liquid, colored liquid and light diffusible liquid. CONSTITUTION:In a display element having a colored absorbing layer 1 which evolves heat by absorbing radiations (IR beams, etc.) 5 and has good IR absorptivity and a liquid layer 2 which generates micro foam 4 in accordance with the heating positions of the layer 1 and utilizing the scattering effect of the foam, the light transmittable colorless liquid consisting of water or an org. solvent or a mixture of both, colored liquid dissolved with dyes or dispersed with pigments or turbid liquid dispersed with light diffusible fine particles (may be solid or liquid) is used for the layer 2. Thus the display differing in lightness, the display differing in hue and color, the display in which the color of the background layer 1 appears, etc. are obtained respectively by the light diffusion effect of the foam 4. The display with excellent drivability is obtained by the scanning of the IR beams, the formation of the heating element in dot matrix structure, etc. |
