PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-step disk driving device which can accomodate itself to the variation of the combination of multi-step disks, by setting one or one pair of heads of one actuator to a freely movable condition in the axial direction of the multi-step disk. CONSTITUTION:Upon receiving a command to select a specific disk out of multi- step disks, a ball screw 7 of an actuator 4 rotates and pair of optical heads 13 move in the axial direction of a disk 1 together with a head arm 12 while the movement is monitored by a positioning bar code 14, and thus, the height of the head 13 is determined. When this constitution is applied, a multi-step disk driving device which can accomadate itself to variation of the combination of the multi-step disks which can be removed one by one, is realized. Moreover, even when the actuator has only one optical head, the same result is obtained. |
