PURPOSE:To improve durability and sealing property in the provision of sealing condition of slide between respective slide surfaces of a seat ring and a seal ring by forming on the slide surface a required number of sealing and lubricating thin grooves inclined forward and backward in the rotational direction. CONSTITUTION:An external pressure type mechanical seal 1 is secured fixedly to a seat ring 3 fixed to a housing 2 and a rotary shaft 4 inserted into the ring 3 while being constituted to block the leakage of fluid A with the slidable contact of a seal ring 5 driven by the rotary shaft 4. In this case, a slide surface 5a of the seal ring 5 is provided radially with thin grooves 6... inclined rearward and thin grooves 7... inclined forward to the rotational direction B of the seal ring 5, both ends of these grooves reaching the outer and inner peripheral edges 5b, 5c of the slide surface 5a and intersecting ecah other thereon. And the thin grooves 7... form lubricating fluid film and the thin grooves 6... display the sealing function with pumping action. |
