PURPOSE:To permit a safe and stable operation of switch element regardless of the kind of the high voltage apparatus and the level of the load, by connecting a D.C. power source to the switch element through a diode, the D.C. power source providing a voltage higher than the operation voltage of the switch element. CONSTITUTION:A high voltage apparatus includes a gap type switch device 5 which is composed of a first high-voltage generating section of variable-voltage type capable of outputting a high D.C. voltage of, for examples, 30 to 110 KV, main electrodes 5b and 5c disposed across a gap 5a, a triggering electrode 5d disposed in the vicinity of the electrode 5c, switching element 5e, power supply 5f for the triggering, and so forth. The apparatus further includes a second high voltage generating section 6 which can produce, when the switching element is triggered, a D.C. voltage higher than the saturation voltage high enough to cause an electric discharge without fail, and a diode 7 for isolation. According to this arrangement, it is possible to operate, at an extremely high speed and reliability, a short-circuiting switch device connected between the high voltage outputting side and the low voltage terminals. |
