PURPOSE:To raise the rapidity, exactness and versatility of marking by providing a marking operation section, a horizontally movable and vertically stamping mechanism, and a rotary character wheel for the marking operation section in an automatic marking device for steel pipe, etc. CONSTITUTION:An object 32 to be marked, e.g., steel pipe, etc., is sent through a holding mechanism 33. In this case, a V-shaped channel receiver 35 is positioned at a level of a steel pipe feed line by a hydraulc cylinder 34, and an inversed V- shaped channel pusher 38 is set in such a way as to enable the steel pipe to pass. Then, a given marking position is brought to the position of a window hole 39, the pusher 38 is brought down and held between it and the receiver 35, and then a character wheel 27 is turned by the rotary motor 31 of a letter selection mechanism 26 to transfer letter to be marked to the lower end and the marking of the first letter is made by a given strong pressing force by a marking device 2. Then, while raising the marking section, the device 2 is horizontally sent by rotation of the rotary motor 7 and the marking of the second letter is made. |
