Downflow centrifugal separator - with concentric tubes defining annular channel swirl vanes, discharge slots and a collection chamber

A centrifugal separator comprises a pair of concentric metallic tubes which define an annular channel. The inner tube has a closed top and an open bottom and the channel has an open top for receiving gas and a closed bottom. Swirling vanes are positioned proximate to the top of the channel for imparting a swirling movement to gas within the channel. The inner tube has a series of angled slots directly inwardly towards the tube centre to provide communication between the annular channel and the space within the inner tube. An annular collection chamber is formed at the bottom of the channel and communicates with a discharge port. Used for sepg. particles of catalyst from hydrocarbon vapours issuing from a catalytic process and removing suspended solids from gases fed to boilers.
