The antimicrobial active substances used are compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> is a straight-chain or branched saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 8 to 18 carbon atoms and R<2> is a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, while n represents an integer from 2 to 6 and m an integer from 3 to 5, and addition products of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or glycidol with compounds of the formula I.
