PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform a passing operation without increasing the resistance of air by a method wherein in case the head lamp movable parellelly to the main optical axis thereof is housed, a passing opening is provided in a covering member arranged in front of the head lamp and a light transmissive cover is fitted in the opening. CONSTITUTION:A head lamp 2 is moved parallelly to its main optical axis by turning a parallel link mechanism formed of links 33 and 34 through a motor rod 41 movable vertically through the operation of a motor 8 so that the direction of the main optical axis 14 of the head lamp 2 is kept constant at all times and the lowering of the light distribution property of the lamp 2 resulting from the angular error of the main optical axis or the generation of a glare phenomenon with respect to another automobile coming from the opposite direction is prevented. Further, in case the head lamp 2 is housed, the passing opening 48 is provided in the covering member for shielding the front face of the head lamp 2 and the light transmissive cover 49 is fitted in the passing opening 48. Consequently, the passing operation for the head lamp 2 is performed accurately and quickly at a position where the head lamp 2 is housed without increasing the resistance of air against the lamp 2 during the travelling of the vehicle. In this case, if the cover 49 is made of a smoke lens, the difference between the lighted-up condition and the lighted-out condition of the lamp 2 becomes distinct to thereby improve the cautionary function of the lamp. |
