PURPOSE:To coat Al on the surface of a steel strip by an easy method of high productivity by forming a thin vapor deposited layer of a low m.p. metal on the surface of the steel strip, holding the same at specific temp. in a vacuum, and press sticking a strip material of Al on the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:After a steel strip is subjected simultaneously to annealing and activation of surface by passing the same through a reducing furnace, a low m.p. metal of Al, zinc, tin, etc. is vapor-deposited relatively thinly on the surface of the steel strip in a vapor deposition chamber of a vacuum vapor depositing device. This steel strip is held in a temp. range from the m.p. of the low m.p. metal up to a m.p. X0.4 in a vacuum. On the other hand, a strip material of Al having cleaned surfaces is heated and held to and at the same temp. as the above-mentioned temp. The latter Al strip material is superposed on the former vapor deposited surface and both are press stuck by rolls to the steel strip and the Al strip material are to be joined firmly. The joined strip is removed into the atmosphere. |
