PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance useful as a raw material of polyester fiber, etc., economically, without using expensive catalyst and high pressure, by reacting a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen using a catalyst comprising an iridium carbonyl compound and a III-valent organophosphorus compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is prepared by reacting a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen at 100-400 deg.C, preferably 150-350 deg.C, using an iridium carbonyl compound as a catalyst and a III-valent organophosphorus compound as an assistant, in a liquid medium especially preferably in N-methyl pyrrolidone, gamma-butyrolactone, etc. The III-valent organophosphorus compound used in the above catalyst is a phosphine derivative of formula PR1R2R3 (R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl, aryl, etc.), e.g. triethylphosphine. Its amount is 0.001-100, especially 0.01-10 in terms of the atomic ratio of phosphorus to iridium. |
