Substituted benzylimidazolium salts of the formula <IMAGE> in which R<1>, R<2> and R<3> can be identical or different and represent hydrogen, a C1-C4-alkyl radical or halogen, R<4> represents an alkyl radical having 8 to 14 carbon atoms, benzyl, halogen- or alkyl-substituted benzyl, R<5> represents hydrogen or an alkyl radical having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl, R<6> represents alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or halogen, R<7> represents alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or halogen and X represents an acid radical, in particular of hydrohalic acids, and microbicides containing them.
