The transportation device is intended for moving loads, such as crates, wooden crates or the like on roads and flights of steps. It contains a load-carrying surface (1), a front castor (2) and a step-climbing device (3) which extends obliquely rearwards and upwards from the horizontal load-carrying surface (1) at an angle of approximately 35 DEG . In each case a continuous cable belt (7) is wound around two pairs (5, 6) of belt wheels and is supported at the bottom by support rollers (8). As a result, the transport device comes to rest on the edges (10) of the steps, the cable belt (7) rolling during the upwards or downwards movement of the transportation device. As a result, it can be used on steps whilst simultaneously maintaining an at least approximately horizontal load-carrying surface (1). <IMAGE>
