The invention relates to a gas-discharge panel having a gas-discharge space (10) and a post-deflection space which are separated from one another by a perforated control disc which is provided with line conductors (9) and column conductors. In the case of this device, it is intended to burn the gas discharge in a neat wedge shape from a large-area cathode (1) towards a selected line conductor ("line in use") and to switch it onwards line-by-line. In order that the non-selected line conductors (9) do not receive any erroneous currents which would brighten the image background, the invention provides for strip-shaped focusing electrodes (2 to 8) to be inserted in the gas-discharge space (10). These electrodes run parallel to the line conductors (9) and are interconnected in a digital manner to form two groups. The two groups receive different potentials which are negative with respect to the voltage of the line in use and are periodically interchanged in such a manner that the focusing electrode (2 to 8) located nearest in each case to the line in use is less negative.
