<p>PURPOSE:To increase the durability of a swash plate type compressor suited for use as a coolant compressor for an automobile and to reduce the fuel consumption of the automobile, by preventing over-operation and high-load operation of the compressor through employment of such an arrangement that the discharge volume of the compressor can be varied by means of a solenoid valve incorporated therein. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 81 of a valve means 8 is inserted into a cylindrical guide 6a, in the manner that it is movable by the pressure in a pressure chamber 87 against the force of a spring 43. The pressure chamber 87 is communicated with a high-pressure chamber 7 via a movable valve 92 of a solenoid valve 9 and a conduit 95, and at the same time, communicated with a low-pressure chamber via an orifice. With such an arrangement, when the movable valve 92 is opened by energizing the solenoid valve 9, pressure in the high-pressure chamber is introduced into the pressure chamber 87, so that the valve means 8 is moved to the left and closes communicating passages 61b, 61c, and compression of a cylinder 41 is started. On the other hand, when the movable valve 92 is closed by de-energizing the solenoid valve 9, pressure in the pressure chamber 87 is released to the low-pressure chamber through the orifice. Therefore, the valve means 8 is moved to the right by the spring 43 and opens the passages 61b, 61c, so that a discharge chamber 63 is communicated with the low-pressure chamber. Resultantly, operation of the compressor is switched to 50% operation.</p> |
