MANUFACTURE OF SHEET OR FILM OF THERMOPLASTIC RESIN

PURPOSE:To obtain a sheet containing NiO2 ideal for removal of waste gas containing toxic and malodorous substance by treating a stretched porous sheet produced by stretching a thermoplastic resin sheet holding a granular Ni salt with a solution of alkali hypochlorite. CONSTITUTION:A composition produced by mixing 100pts.wt. of a thermoplastic resin (e.g. high density PE) with 10-200pts.wt. of a granular Ni salt (e.g. NiSO4) is molded into a sheet, which is stretched in a uniaxial or polyaxial manner to form a porous sheet or film which has fine passages to allow communication between granular Ni salts held and granular Ni salts and the surface of the stretched sheet. The sheet or film thus obtained is treated by a solution of alkali (e.g. NaOH) and hypochlorite (e.g. NaOCl) to turn the Ni salt to turn the Ni salt to NiO2. Thus, a thermoplastic resin sheet or film is obtained which is ideal for removal of toxic and malodorous substances such as CH4, NH3, H2S, lower amine and mercaptan contained in a waste gas when brought into contact therewith.
