Optically active 3-tert-butoxy-2-methylpropanoic acid and process for its preparation

The novel optically active compounds (2R)-3-tert-butoxy-2- methylpropanoic acid and (2S)-3-tert-butoxy-2-methylpropanoic acid can be obtained in an advantageous manner by resolution of the racemic acid with chiral bases. They are thus industrially relatively easily accessible, optically active building blocks which can be used for the synthesis of desired optically active active substances, for example natural vitamin E.
