PURPOSE:To enable a compact and simple construction to sharply change the rotational frequency, by providing a direct connection mechanism and a synchronizing mechanism between the input and output shafts of a fluid coupling. CONSTITUTION:A fluid coupling 3 comprises a pump impeller 3a mounted on the end of an input shaft 1 and a turbine impeller 3b mounted on the end of an output shaft 2. A direct connection mechanism is composed of the spline grooves 4a, 4b of the input and the output shafts 1, 2 and a spline 5 which is movable in the axial direction. A synchronizing mechanism is composed of a cone 6a inserted with a spring 7 in the spline 5 so that the cone can be moved in the axial direction, and a conical opening 6b provided inside the spline groove 4a of the input shaft so that the cone 6a can be fitted in the conical opening. The direct connection mechanism and the synchronizing mechanism are controlled by a flow control valve 15 and a solenoid valve 16. |
