PURPOSE:To efficiently recover sulfur by feeding gaseous SO2 generated in a lower fluidized bed to an upper fluidized bed to reduce the SO2 to simple sulfur vapor, bringing the vapor into contact with nascent gaseous H2, and feeding the resulting H2S to a sulfur separator. CONSTITUTION:Granules 8 of sulfide ore contg. carbon such as coal pyrite are fed to an upper fluidized bed 2 from a nozzle 9. The bed 2 is kept at about 800-900 deg.C, and blown steam 6 causes a water gas reaction with carbon in the starting material, generating CO and H2. In a lower fluidized bed 3 sulfur and the residual carbon in the starting material burn in the presence of air 5, generating SO2 and CO2. The generated gases are fed to the bed 3, where the SO2 is reduced to sulfur vapor with carbon in the starting material, part of FeS2 in the sulfide ore is decomposed to generate sulfur vapor, and the vapor is converted into H2S by the reaction with H2 generated by said water gas reaction. The gaseous H2S is discharged from a discharge nozzle 11 attached to the superficial part 10 of the upper bed, and it is recovered as simple sulfur in a sulfur recovering apparatus such as a Claus reaction furnace. |
