PURPOSE:To measure coil diameters easily and surely at all times in a noncontacting state by measuring the outside diameter of coils optically. CONSTITUTION:A light projector 7 and a photodetector 8 are disposed opposite to each other below the center of the coil 5 of a delivery machine 1. The projector 7 emits light to the lower half part of the coil 5 of the machine 1. The photodetector 8 detects the light which is made incident thereto from said projector 7 through the coil 5, and the photodetector transmits the electrical output corresponding to the quantity of light as the detected output of the coil diameter. When the coil 5 is inserted in the machine 1, the light emitted from the projector 7 is detected by the photodetector 9 within the range where said light is not shielded by the coil 5, but the light is shielded by the half diameter part of the coil 5 and this shielded light is not detected with the photodetector 8. The quantity of light for the shielded part, that is, the half diameter part of the coil 5 is measured with the photodetector 8, and if the measured value is doubled, the initial value of the outside diameter D of the coil is determined. |
