A mechanism with a drive shaft which carries a worm with a particular root diameter and the diameter of which is larger over wide areas than the root diameter of the worm, and with a worm wheel which meshes with the worm, is to be further developed in such a way that it permits low-cost and rapid manufacture. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the worm is shorter than the length which the tip circle of the worm wheel cuts out of the drive shaft and that, on at least one side of the worm, the drive shaft has a notch which has a reduced diameter and into which the worm wheel plunges. The shorter worm makes possible a reduction in the milling time per drive shaft. Since the notches can be produced in the course of the turning down of the drive shaft, which is necessary in any case, the reduction in milling time is reflected in lower-cost manufacture.
