1,072,504. Stud and socket fastenings. N. V. PHILLIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 11, 1964 [June 12, 1963], No. 24266/64. Heading E2B. [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A rotatable control knob, particularly for an electric laundry iron temperature control element (e.g. thermostat), comprises an annular portion 1 having a reduced diameter depending cylindrical skirt 16 engaging a circular aperture in the wall 5 of a controlled mechanism housing and unequal width bayonet lugs 21, 22 engaging the underside of the wall, a closure lid 2 seated on a shoulder of the portion 1, and a spring 3 clamping the portion 1 between the wall 5 and the lid 2 to prevent inadvertent removal of the portion 1 should this be turned to align the lugs 21, 22 with corresponding entry slots 23, 24 in the wall. The portion 1 further comprises a slot 14 engaging a thermostat operating arm 4, and projections 20 engaging a projection 19 on the lid to entrain the latter with the portion 1. To assemble the knob, the spring is manually compressed and inserted in the portion 1 so that its ends 8, 9 engage slots 17, 18 provided in the inner wall of the portion 1 and extending through the skirt 16. The lid 2 is hooked by extensions 11, 12 thereon to the spring bowed central portion 10 and, with the arm 4 in its correct position for engagement with the slot 14 (e.g. an end stop and/or zero position), the portion 1 is engaged with the wall 5, the lugs 21, 22 passing through the slots 23, 24. With the arm 4 located in the slot 14 the portion 1 is turned to bring the lugs 21, 22 under the wall and the lid is downwardly pressed home to axially move the spring until its ends 8, 9 spring out through the slots 17, 18 and engage the underside of the wall. The knob, with the lugs 21, 22 and slots 23, 24 aligned, may be removed by the insertion and levering of a thin blade between the wall and the portion 1. The lid 2 and portion 1 are preferably moulded from synthetic material. The portion 1 is preferably knurled. |
