The invention relates to a coin-sorting and -counting machine which is usually arranged in a manually transportable housing. It is concerned essentially with the design of the driving disc which, in known versions, can lead to faults especially in the transfer from the driving disc on to the run-off strip. Thus, for example, an unsuitable dimensioning can cause the reception of two coins in one recess or, this being in respect of the increasing proportion of large coins, the overriding sorting out of the latter, with the result that the machine is stopped prematurely when the large-coin box is full. The object of the invention is, therefore, to design the sorting mechanism, especially the driving disc, so that the coins run off at an equal spacing in a greatly differing coin-size sequence. The solution for achieving this object envisages the arrangement of two radially directed recesses of different size which are respectively one behind the other and are arranged on the periphery of the driving disc, the larger recesses being so dimensioned that they can in each case simultaneously intercept the largest coins, but not two smaller coins from the coin assortment. The depth dimension of the recesses is less than the thickness of the thinnest coin, so that the coins project reliably above the driving disc (4) and, if the rolling capacity is insufficient, are made to roll by the run-off strip. <IMAGE>
