PURPOSE:To facilitate discharging of dehydrated cake from a screw press in the stage of dehydrating hydrous feather with said press by blowing heating steam to the part near the cake discharging port of the screw press. CONSTITUTION:Feather contg. a large amt. of water which is a raw material for feather meal is fed through a raw material feed port 1 into a screw press. The feather is pressurized gradually with a rotary screw 3 and while water is removed gradually therefrom, the feather is conveyed in a direction (c). The removed water is contained through a dehydrating port 4A of a cage cylinder 4 into a water storage tank 6. The feather raw material is conveyed to a cake discharging port 5 side and since the screw 3 is formed to have increasingly larger minor diameters of the screw threads 3A and increasingly smaller pitches, the raw material is pressed strongly. At this time the high temp. steam from steam tanks 11, 12 is blown from the cylinder 4 side toward the screw 3; at the same time the steam from a steam tank 14 is blown from the screw 4 side to the cylinder 4. The feather raw material is softened by the high temp. steam blown thereto, and is easily discharged into a cake containing tank 7. |
