A lathe tool-holder having means to pivot the cutting tool clear of the workpiece following a cut, to permit the return transverse, comprises a holder 3 with a spindle 3a rotatably mounted in a bearing member 5 having a threaded sleeve 5a attached to a support plate 9. The bearing member is provided with an eccentrically located pin 11 which extends axially into an enlarged bore 12 in the holder. Transversely to the bore 12 and opening therein are bores 13 and 15 which house a set screw 14 and a spring 16 respectively. The setscrew provides means for adjusting movement of the pin 11 in the bore 12 and subsequently the angular movement of the tool in relation to the workpiece. The spring 16 which is under compression during the cutting operation of the tool when the pin 11 is urged against the screw 14, displaces the tool-holder anticlockwise to effect clearance between the tool and workpiece at the end of a cut. An alternative embodiment shows the device adapted for machining internal surfaces and wherein the tool clearance is achieved by the axis of the workpiece being offset from the axis of rotation of the cutting-tool. |
