A water treatment system, comprising a container [5] for the water to be treated, with means [4] for dispersing therein air which has been previously activated with short-wave radiation with a wave length of less than 200 nm, which container is connected, by means of a circulation duct, with additional water treatment means, which, on the other hand, are connected again with the container, in which additional means residual organic material and/or reaction products suspended and/or dissolved in the circulated water are removed from the water.
