PURPOSE:To obtain a stainless steel strip having excellent surface characteristics and homogenized material quality efficiently by heating a stainless steel slab in a high temp. molten material, and passing the same through heat holding furnaces of nonoxidative gaseous atmospheres before and after hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:A stainless steel slab 1 is charged into a heating furnace 26 contg. a high temp. molten material such as barium chloride and after the slab is heated to a prescribed temp., the slab is thrusted into hot roughing mills 31, by which the slab is rolled. Heat holding furnaces 32T, 32B and 33T, 33B filled with nonoxidative gases are provided before and after the hot roughing mills to prevent the high temp. oxidation and temp. reduction of the slab surfaces. The hot rolled plate 34 is subjected to 1-pass rolling with hot finishing mills 35 having small diameter work rolls and the hot-rolled steel strip 36 is passed through heat holding furnaces 37T, 37B of nonoxidative gaseous atmospheres. Thereafter the steel strip is passed through shape correcting rolling mills 38, a loop type continuous annealing furnace 39, a controlled cooler 45 and a dryer 56. |
