The invention relates to an insulating building element having a statically supporting body made of a chalky sandstone mixture having an insulating layer bonded on the front. The supporting body has chambers which run transversely with respect to the insulating layer, are open at least towards the insulating layer and are foam-filled with an insulating material. The supporting body may be a pressed or cast chalky sandstone. <IMAGE>
