PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent adhesive strength to a magnetic layer by using a polyester film having a contact angle with water smaller than specific values as a base. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer is formed directly on a polyester base film having <=50 deg. contact angle with water or via an underlying layer. For example, a substrate 2 is disposed between a pair of upper, lower annular AC electrodes 3, 4 in a vacuum vessel 1, and a polyester base film 6 is set on the bottom surface of a substrate 2. After the inside of the vessel 1 is evacuated to a vacuum with an evacuating system 7, gaseous oxygen is introduced therein through a gas introducing pipe 8 and the surface of the film is subjected to a plasma treatment by <=120mA.sec/cm<2> current applied from an AC power source 9. Thereafter, a magnetic material 10 such as Co is set in the W boat 5 in the vessel 1 and the material 10 is vacuum deposited on the film 6 which is subjected to the plasma treatment until the contact angle with water attains <=50 deg. as mentioned above, whereby a ferromagnetic thin metallic film layer is formed. |
