Method is for adjustment of the calcium-CO2 balance in water, and involves reacting calcium carbonate with acid so that CO2 gas is produced. The CO2 gas is absorbed in alkaline soln. which is contacted with the residual mixt. from the first stage. This neutralises the residual acid, and then the soln. produced is added to the water. The calcium carbonate may be replaced by magnesium carbonate, or a mixt. of both substances may be used. The acid can be hydrochloric carbonic, or a mixt. of several acids. The absorption soln. is alkaline aq. soln. of sodium carbonate and/or calcium hydroxide. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week K26).
|
