[Also in Division F4] A pre-drying apparatus, e.g. a rotating drum 10, is associated with a chamber 24 having two transfer paths and adjustable baffles 38, 40 for admitting a conditioned atmosphere from duct 32 to either path whereby material from the drum may be further dried, or cooled, or humidified, by passing it through one transfer path or the other depending on whether the material is film-forming or non film-forming. With baffle 38 closed and baffle 40 open, film-forming materials are transferred on the upper surface of conveyor belt 20 through the conditioned atmosphere. With baffle 38 open and baffle 40 closed, non film-forming materials are transferred through the conditioned atmosphere along the path defined by the lower wall 19 of the chamber and the lower portion of the now stationary belt 20. In both cases, the treated material is discharged through outlet 26. |
