1,190,159. Hydropneumatic shock absorbers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 2 Dec., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 57012/68. Heading F2S. In a shock absorber consisting of a telescopic hydraulic damper combined with a gas spring of the rolling diaphragm type, the spring diaphragm 50 is formed from a tubular sleeve which in its uninstalled state (Fig. 2, not shown) has end portions of different diameter and an intermediate tapered portion. The smaller diameter end of the sleeve is secured at 52 to the casing of the hydraulic damper, the sleeve is folded back upon itself at 62 and its larger diameter end is secured at 53 to a rigid tubular element 48 which in turn is secured to the pistonrod 40 of the damper. The latter is of the kind in which a valved piston 42 acts in a cylinder 16 which communicates by way of a valve 26 with an annular reservoir 30 surrounding the cylinder. The rate of the gas spring can be adjusted by varying the gas quantity by means of a valve 63. |
